A win, win for employers and employees
Government backed apprenticeships build lasting capability into your organisation. They keep staff motivated and engaged over the long term, with both classroom and practical on-site training.
Employers gain skilled people, trained by ETL and by you in the processes you need most. It is an affordable workforce solution that grows with your business.
Useful sooner
Technical units are delivered early, so your apprentices start generating real business benefits in a much shorter time.
Learning that sticks
One-week blocks let practical tasks and tough subjects run continuously, making information much easier to retain.
A relaxed, purpose-built centre
Air conditioned classrooms and skills rooms on the Norfolk Broads, just outside Norwich, designed to give every learner the best chance to develop.
Level 2 and Level 3 courses
A comprehensive introduction to the highway electrical industry. No prior qualifications needed.
More advanced units for learners who have completed Level 2 or hold a relevant HERS Card.
Put your levy to work
Companies with a wage bill over £3 million pay the apprenticeship levy by law, and can recoup it by putting qualifying staff through apprenticeship training.
Companies who don’t pay the levy can still receive funds towards training, with some small costs for the employer. Depending on your apprentice’s age, some or all of their training may be funded.
What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a structured training programme that combines hands-on work experience with academic study. Apprentices earn a wage while they learn.
Why choose a Highway Electrical Apprenticeship?
It provides a comprehensive, quality-assured education that is nationally recognised, preparing apprentices for a range of roles within the industry.
What qualifications do I need to start?
For Level 2, no prior qualifications are needed. For Level 3, you must complete Level 2 or hold a relevant HERS Card and undergo an onboarding interview. Level 3 also requires Functional Skills Maths and English Level 2, or FS Level 1 Maths and English, or equivalent (GCSE Grade 3).
How long does the apprenticeship last?
The Highway Electrical Systems apprenticeship lasts 24 months for both Level 2 and Level 3.
How is it funded?
Government grants are often available and can significantly subsidise training. Employers may co-invest or fund it fully, and some apprentices are eligible for extra support such as travel or equipment grants. Talk to us to explore every option.
Will I get paid during my apprenticeship?
Apprentices receive at least the minimum apprenticeship wage, and employers often offer more.
Can I switch employers during the apprenticeship?
Yes. Switching employers is permitted and can be coordinated with your training provider.
Is there an age limit?
No. There is no age limit for taking part in an apprenticeship.
What happens after I finish?
After Level 2 you can progress to Level 3, then on to the HE Level 3 NVQ Supervisor qualification and other vocational courses and awards within the sector and beyond.
